Introduction

Hello!  My name is Sarah Lutsic and I live in Dearborn, Michigan.  I graduated with my BS in Secondary Education from CMU in May 2015 with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Earth Science and Middle Level Education.

This is my second year of teaching.  My first year was spent at Berkley High School where I taught as a math interventionist.  I worked with students on APEX Learning to receive credit for classes they didn’t pass in the normal classroom setting.  Currently, I am working at Dearborn High School as an Algebra 2 teacher.  This school has a high population of ELL students and has been an exciting challenge!

I am concerned about the time I have to dedicate to this course.  The end of the school year is coming in quick and should become much more manageable once that is done.

  1. Hi Sarah! I understand your concerns with the end of the year quickly approaching. It seems like there is more and more being added to my plate! Hang in there, we can do it!

  2. I also feel your pain regarding the end of the school year. It's so crazy but it looks like this class will be one of the fun ones. We can definitely do it!

  3. I also want to add that I really like the layout and type choices of your blog. Having your name stay at the top is a nice touch.

IDEA: Students will conduct a survey on a topic they are interested in.   For example, “How many students prefer Coke over Pepsi?”   Students will create an Infographic to display their data.   Students will analyze their data to find the mean, median, mode, and standard deviation of their data and include this information in their Infographic. Blooms: -Students will analyze data and find the mean, median, mode, and standard deviation of their data. -Students will create an Infographic to display their data. Application: When I created my Infographic, I took into consideration many of the principles we learned about.   When I was creating step-by-step instruction on graphing, I made sure that I had both text and graphics presented together.   As read about in Spatial Contiguity Principle,   when graphics and text are presented nearby, it is easier for a learner to make connections.   In the video I selected, the Temporal Contiguity Princip...

Assessment

Students will watch this video on how to find the mean, median, and mode, while they are at home.  I will know if they have watched it based on the students who have taken the quiz.  I will also be able to guide instruction around common mistakes I see on the quiz.   Blooms: -Students will compare and contrast mean, median, and mode -Students will identify when it is appropriate to use mean, median, and mode to represent different sets of data -Students will determine the mean, median, and mode of a set of data I believe PlayPosit is a great application to use in a flipped classroom.  However, when students work from home, it's hard to identify who is looking up the answers on the internet and who is actually doing the work.  This will also be hard to  implement  if students don't have technology at home. Students will be given a statistics project as a summative assessment....
